The heart of our compassion ministry is taking the church to the community. Grace has an amazing volunteer team of men, women, and youth who put Christs love into action a few different ways in our community. They take the Word of God, worship, prayer, and encouragement to Senior Living Facilities and Teen Challenge. Another way this team extends the love of Jesus is setting up Church on the Sidewalk along the street outside of our church to meet and pray for those passing by on foot, bicycle, and car. This team of volunteers also serve meals once a month to the homeless at a local congregation.
Those involved with the various Compassion Ministries know that sometimes the greatest gift that can be given is not a solution, but kindness, love, and presence. When we go beyond the walls, we discover that the church is not a place we go – it is who we are. When we live that truth, compassion becomes more than a ministry, it becomes our way of life.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 25:40 (NASB) ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’
When we serve others, we serve Jesus.
